According to bag historians, Duffle bags originated in the town of Duffel in Belgium around 400 years ago. Over the years however the name has changed to be Duffle but some manufacturers still occasionally use the traditional spelling. Duffle bags are typically designed to have one opening at the top so they can cater for larger bulkier items.
